Prison Architect’s New Game “Scanner Sombre” Revealed, Launches April 26

Devolver Digital and Prison Architect studio Introversion Software have announced their next game – and it’s launching in two days!

Titled simply Scanner Sombre, the minimalist adventure has you exploring and navigating through a complex network of underground caves. The key here is you’ll be using your LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) scanner to see anything really, otherwise you’re fumbling around in the dark.

Featured above, you should hit play on the game’s announcement trailer to get a better idea of how the game looks and plays. Introversion’s Managing Director, Mark Morris said the game will “probably going to make you feel a bit uncomfortable.”

Here’s a rundown on the game:

Scanner Sombre introduces a minimalist game environment in intriguing new ways, creating a suspense-laden journey that harnesses the senses from a first person perspective.

Using a LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) scanner to aid navigation, players must make their way through a complex network of underground caves in complete darkness in an attempt to make it back to the surface. Your LIDAR scanner produces millions of individual light-points, painting a static, neon 3D image of the environments as you trek through the darkness. But not all is as it seems, and you might not be alone.

Scanner Sombre is set to launch on April 26th for PC, and it will unlock at 3pm BST / 7am PDT / 10am EDT. Make sure to check out it’s Steam page for when it goes live!
