PoPoLoCrois creator teases new release on modern platforms

PoPoLoCrois

It seems like the PoPoLoCrois series might get new life on modern platforms, if a blatant tease from its creator is anything to go by.

Series creator Yosuke Tamori updated his ongoing Popolo Mail Box, a newsletter where he answers questions from fans of the beloved series.

“I’ve been wondering if this series might ever be released on PlayStation 5, but I know that’s unlikely, isn’t it?” a fan named Maki said.

“There are currently no plans for a PlayStation 5 game,” Tamori said. “However, there is a possibility for other platforms. Please be patient and wait.”

PoPoLoCrois was created by Tamori as a manga originally and its popularity led to spinoff novels and eventually video games. The first game, PoPoLoCrois Story, was released for the PlayStation back in 1996 and only in Japan. Five more games were released, and only the 2005 PSP game PoPoLoCrois was released overseas.

Most recently, the series got a farming and life sim game by developer Marvelous titled Return to PoPoLoCrois: A Story of Seasons FairytaleThe game was released only for the Nintendo 3DS and despite Sony owning the IP, it wasn’t released on a Sony platform. Sony’s ownership of the IP has likely made it difficult for previous games to be re-released or remastered.
