Pokemon Sword and Shield The Crown Tundra Expansion Dynamax Adventures; Legendary Pokemon Catch Rate 100%

Pokemon Sword Shield The Crown Tundra Dynamax Adventures Legendary Catch Rate

Game Freak have revealed that Legendary Pokemon caught during Dynamax Adventures in Pokemon Sword and Shield’s The Crown Tundra expansion have a 100% catch rate.

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield are out now on Nintendo Switch. The Isle of Armor expansion is out now, and The Crown Tundra expansion will launch October 22nd; both via the Expansion Pass DLC. In case you missed it, you can find our review for the base game here, and our review of the Isle of Armor expansion here.

As previously reported [1, 2], one of the new features coming to The Crown Tundra are Max Adventures. While Max Raid battles task a player with fighting a single Dynamaxed or Gigantimaxed Pokemon with three other allies, Max Adventures are a little different.

Players are tasked with fighting multiple Max Raid battles in a row using Rental Pokemon (rather than their own), and choosing which path to go down with events along the way. Players can also swap their rental Pokemon for the newly captured Dynamax Pokemon. Players can find Legendary Pokemon from prior games through this.

Now, Serebii reports that during Japanese TV program Pokénchi new details about Dynamax Adventures were revealed. Players fight three Dynamax Pokemon before they encounter a Legendary Pokemon. After defeating a Pokemon, players choose the path they wish to go down. Some of these paths offer berries to heal your Pokemon; as damage carries over between the battles.

Previously, Legendary Pokemon have been hard to capture, having a low “catch rate.” Players improve their odds by weakening the Pokemon, or giving it a status effect such as Sleep. With a Max Raid battle however, players only get one chance to catch the Pokemon after defeating it (or reloading their save).

However, it was reportedly revealed that players have a 100% success rate to capture Legendary Pokemon in Dynamax Adventures. The news is also sure to delight the subset of players who like to capture Pokemon in specific Pokeballs that are aesthetically pleasing (matching its type or color scheme), as oppose to improving their odds.

Serebii also note that “you can only capture one.” As with previous games, this means players can only capture one of each Legendary Pokemon. As Sword and Shield introduced Nature Mints to change a Pokemon’s Nature (and therefore stats) and continued Hyper-Training from previous games, this is not as major and issue as it once was.

It has not yet been confirmed if players will be able to capture shiny Legendary Pokemon, though the fact it was not mentioned during the program would seem to indicate it is not. Shiny Legendary Pokemon were typically only found via special events, but Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon did allow players to capture them.
