Pokemon Sword and Shield Only Allows Galar-Region Pokemon from Pokemon Home

Nintendo has shared some new details for Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield in their E3 2019 Nintendo Treehouse live broadcast.

In the livestream they confirmed not all Pokemon stored and traded within Pokemon Home – their new cloud-based storage solution for the massive number of Pokemon now in the franchise – will be eligible to be transferred to the latest games in the franchise.

Only Galar-region Pokemon, i.e. the ones that appear in the upcoming eighth generation titles, will be eligible to transfer into Sword and Shield.

Key reasons behind this decision were to keep the roster balanced, and the ability to add updated and more detailed versions of Pokemon into the latest games. The goal is to make sure all included ‘mons look as good as possible.

Pokemon Sword and Shield will come to the Nintendo Switch on November 15, 2019. Pokemon Home will launch in 2020.
