Pokemon Presents Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl, and Legends: Arceus Livestream Premieres August 18

Pokemon Presents

A livestream focused on the upcoming Pokemon Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl, and Pokemon Legends: Arceus has been announced.

The Pokemon Presents livestream premieres August 18th at 6:00 a.m. PDT via YouTube.

As previously reported, the Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl games are remakes of the 2008 mainline Nintendo DS Pokemon games. Players will head to the Sinnoh region; based on the Japanese island of Hokkaido, and part of the Russian island of Sakhalin. Its most prominent feature is Mt. Coronet, a mountain range that divides the land in two.

The region is also steeped in mythology; especially around a trio of Pokemon living in lakes across the land, and legendary Pokemon said to command time and space. However, Team Galactic seeks to abuse this power for their own gains.

The original games introduced new features such as Super Contests, Poffin cooking, Ball Seals for custom Pokeball animations, and the underground. The latter allowed players to make their own bases, dig up fossils, and play capture the flag with local players (not to mention setting and avoiding traps).

Unlike other main Pokemon games, this one will not be developed by Game Freak. Instead, it will be handled by ILCA Inc.; the studio behind the Pokemon Home app. The game uses an art-style akin to the Let’s Go games (along with a chibi artstyle in the overworld evoking the DS games), but it seems players will once again fight wild Pokemon.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl launches November 19th on Nintendo Switch.

Meanwhile, Pokemon Legends: Arceus is set in ancient Sinnoh; where people have traveled to to establish a town, and explore a wild region. You will be creating the first Pokedex. While battles are still turn-based, players can throw Pokeballs at wild Pokemon freely. Players also seem to be able to explore an open world, and are able to roll and sneak.

The starters are Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott; given to you by a traveling professor. The Pokemon Arceus; said to have created the world, will also be critical to the story. Further, the ninja-like designs of the player character (specifically the scarves) evoke the design of the main characters in Pokemon Platinum.

Pokemon Legends Arceus launches January 28th, 2022 for Nintendo Switch.
