Sony’s Spider-Man Remastered recently was launched for PC, another game that formerly was exclusive to the PlayStation platform. While it may not be new in that concept, files within the PC port of Spider-Man hint of a possible PlayStation PC launcher.
Multiple files in the game make references to linking to PSN accounts, which is a big deal considering this is the PC version of the game. There had already been previous reports of Sony introducing linking PSN accounts for PC games as well.
While Sony has already released multiple games on PC before, such as God of War and Horizon: Zero Dawn, they had only seen launches on Steam and Epic Games Store. It’s worth noting they’ve also already had a PlayStation PC brand for a while now as well.
It’s entirely possible this launcher information could simply be an additional launcher while they continue to release games on third-party stores. This would be akin to other launchers such as the Rockstar launcher. Their other competitor in Xbox, however, does offer games through their own launcher, but also sell them through services such as Steam.
It is also possible these files only suggest plans of a launcher that may have been canceled. It’s looking extremely unlikely the company is abandoning PC support considering Sony’s continuing support on releasing games on the PC platform.
Upcoming PC ports later this year are the Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection. Perhaps with a more solid lineup of games, Sony might feel more confident with releasing a PC launcher to go along with them.
