It seems like there’s a wild number of gaming related hacking attempts going on right now – although this one is actually legitimate.

Throughout the earlier portion of this day, the Playstation Network was consistently down, or experiencing outages, due to a DDOS attack by a hacker group named Lizard Squad. While there is still no confirmation that Lizard Squad are responsible, they have publicly taken responsibility on twitter.

The attack itself also stretched across Blizzard’s Battlenet, meaning that World of Warcraft, Diablo 3, and Hearthstone were all affected as well. The most interesting thing is that Lizard Squad is claiming they were the ones who called in a bomb threat to actually divert SOE President John Smedley’s plane .. for whatever reason.

Right now Sony engineers are still working on completely resolving the issue, so we’ll keep you guys posted.
