We’ve learned (via Eurogamer) that Sony’s Game & Network Services division, which includes their PlayStation branch, has brought in a sizable amount of money.

In the last quarter of 2014, Sony’s G&NS garnered a staggering 531.5bn yen, or roughly $4.37bn, and finally £2.9bn for our European readers out there. It’s worth mentioning this particular division of Sony brought in more revenue than any other part of Sony during the quarter. This equates to roughly $227 million in profit against their operating costs, and a 5% margin.

This is a “significant” increase of sales by 16.8% year on year, mostly due to the boost of sales that coming with the PlayStation 4. Over 20.2 million Playstation 4’s have been sold worldwide, with 6.4 million sold during that quarter alone. Sony recently sold off their entire Sony Online Entertainment studio, which brought in a $50 million write off for the company.

So is Sony on a roll? Not quite, as their other divisions are lagging behind. While sales are up 6.5%, operating income is up 104%, and the company is expecting to report a net loss, the sixth it will see in seven years, for the current fiscal year.
