The end of an era – we’ve learned (via Games Jouhou) that Sony is ending PlayStation 3 manufacturing in Japan.
The news comes from the company’s official Japanese PlayStation website, which updated to now list the 500GB standard unit as having its shipments ending soon. That’s basically all we have to go off for now.
The PlayStation 3 first launched back in November 2006 for North America and Japan, followed by a March 2007 release in Europe. Since then, it has seen numerous hardware updates, including the Slim and the Super Slim.
