Pixar’s new and upcoming animated series Win or Lose has removed a character’s storyline because it involved a transgender character, something Pixar and possibly Disney are now avoiding.
The new series follows a co-ed middle school softball team named the Pickles, and takes place in the week leading up to their championship game. Each episode focuses on a character involved with the team, one of which was originally set to be transgender.
A spokesperson for Disney confirmed the transgender character’s story was removed from the show due to apparent concerns from presenting said content to children.
“When it comes to animated content for a younger audience, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timeline,” a Disney spokesperson said to Hollywood Reporter.
While the character’s transgenderism has been cut from the show, the character still remains in the show and apparently “a few lines of dialogue” were cut. Disney reportedly cut the transgender themes from the show months ago.
The new series will star Will Forte as Coach Dan, the coach of the Pickles softball team, as well as Izaac Wang as Yuwen, Jo Firestone as Sweaty, Milan Ray as Rochelle, Josh Thomson as Frank, Erin Keif as Lena, Rosa Salazar as Vanessa (Rochelle’s mom), and Rosanna Jean Foss as Laurie.
Win or Lose is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Disney+ on February 19th, 2025, and will run for eight episodes.
