Pillars of Eternity: Definitive Edition Announced for PC, Mac, and Linux

Paradox Interactive has announced a definitive edition for Pillars of Eternity, following the game’s previously released complete edition.

The Obsidian Entertainment-developed tactical RPG will launch in this new version for PC, Mac, and Linux on November 15th.

This release includes the base game plus both expansions The White March I and II, as well as all the premium content included in the royal edition (original soundtrack, digital collector’s book, etc.), as well as the all-new Deadfire Pack DLC.

Setting you back $39.99 on digital storefronts and certain retailers, the definitive edition includes:

  • The original Pillars of Eternity, a modern RPG with classic inspiration, and winner of multiple awards for its rich story, art, and world design
  • The complete, expanded world, characters, and content from The White March: Parts I & II, which adds new places to travel and quests to complete
  • All premium content originally sold with Pillars of Eternity: Royal Edition, including the original soundtrack, a digital collector’s book, an original novella set in the Pillars universe, and much, much more
  • The all-new Deadfire Pack DLC, which includes new in-game items to earn and discover, and new portraits from the forthcoming sequel, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, releasing in 2018

The hero edition of the game will be reduced in price to $29.99 on PC, Mac, and Linux.

Pillars of Eternity is now available for PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. In case you missed it – you can find our review for the original Pillars of Eternity for PC here (we highly recommend it!).

It still has the censorship from a male nutcase and Ian Mile Cheong (who has never apologized for this) , so it’s hardly definitive or worth buying.

Ian Mile Cheong? More context on this please?

As someone that enjoyed the first game Pillars of Eternity and the White March expansions, I’m genuinely worried about the sequel, because the portraits for the new characters look ripped straight off of Tumblr.

I still wish someone would explain to me why people are so butthurt over the change, especially giving the details of the entire story.

“Dude, Tumblr is complaining about your limerick, but we’ll keep it.”
“Nah, man. Let’s change it. I don’t want drama taking attention away from the game.”
“Well, what do you want to change it to?”
“Can it be something that mocks the people complaining?”
    “Alright. Let’s do that.”

I mean come the on folks.

To be fair, while some people dread to admit, the tumblr crowd also loves fantasy RPGs… For the same reason the anti-SJW crowd does, and general social fuck-ups do… We can all pretend we live in a world we belong and even if we don’t we can shape it for the better.

Because he has publicly said he thought he’d lose it entirely if he didn’t change it voluntarily.

He helped the nutcase’s whining gain attention of developers and gave it legitimacy.

The inferior version is not definitive. That is objective as it’s the definition of definitive.

I always though that has to do with 4chan being at war with tumblr, neogaf, reddit or deviantart
and well any social site with a better page layout and memes that dont look like shit.. They just started with the SJW thingy to further isolate themselves and pretend being persecuted

I feel like being mad at someone for pointing out the blunder of another is kind of a bit excessive. And expecting them to apologize for exposing idiocy is even more excessive.

You’ve just shown your bias by calling it a blunder in the first place. The man was clearly deranged and had no basis for his claim.

I don’t know how I can have a bias on something you did an awful job at explaining in the first place.

Here’s what it sounds like to me: A guy censored the game. Ian called him out for being an idiot and censoring it.

Those are the details YOU gave. I don’t know how else to interpret it. And it sounds like you want him to apologize for calling someone an idiot for censoring a game. Which, fuck that.

Random idiot whines on twitter he is offended over a line in the game someone paid a thousand bucks to have in game. Cheong tells developer this whining is taken seriously. Developer changes line.

It was changed to a dig at the people that complained.

That’s not exactly what I’d calling “caving”. But hey, it’s obvious that you’re so caught up in the culture war that you think it’s a crushing defeat… And feel free to believe that. *Shrugs.*

I think it’s such a minor issue to be offended about and acting like such an insignificant change ruins a game… I mean, for God’s sake. It’s literally something we only know about because we’re plugged into social media 24/7.

I just find it odd that some people think that their group is the only one that cares about a certain type of game. Of the people I know who are into RPG, there was one who was genuinely and legitimately upset Trump won…Another was genuinely happy. Both love the genre.

It just seems odd to me that people, on both sides, seem to think that they have ownership over something that really belongs to everyone.

Ian Mile Cheong has always been a bad guy. What’s new? Reminding yourself that he said Criminal Girls games should be banned.

I think its much like Punks and Skinheads would do over Rock and then fight over Political Difference. But this time its Tribalism in the internet and over games genres instead

Some People just have this silly instinct, that urges them with the need, of belonging to a group and, then, that group has to be better than other, even if they are the same. So they have to slander and Not Real x the others , to make a difference.

Being forced to change something is a cave in, you dumb fuck.

Of course they do, that’s why garbage like Dragon Age and Mass Effect is popular.

Maybe on some timeline there’s a pillars of eternity worth my time, but not the pillars of equality we got. Were it turn-based, well-written, and the classes not nerfed through repeated patches this would be the edition I’d want.

It was changed to something that mocked the idea that it needed to be changed in the first place.

This culture war bullshit is garbage for gaming, no matter what “side” it’s on.

  26. Immahnoob
    November 3, 2017 at 2:05 pm

And it shouldn’t have been forced to be changed into anything else, as I said.
This “culture war” is unnecessary but only because SJWs are unnecessary. You can as well not take sides, but trying to take a “centrist” position while falsely mocking both sides is retarded.
And this time, yes, I am calling you retarded.

Right…Although I’m at the school of thought that the lore stuff isn’t what makes modern Bioware bad, but mechanics… And I can’t really fault them specifically on that.

(Although, fuck Mass Effect straight to hell; ME3s ending still pisses me off.)

I don’t think you get it, they caved in, that’s where they failed and that’s where you’re being an idiot.
It’s OK to eat shit because it’s a little, right?
Well, that’s up to you, shit eater. But you’re excusing all types of censorship because it’s “a little” and not your random “at least 50% of the game” bullshit.

  30. Malcolm_Ecks
    November 3, 2017 at 5:49 pm

Inferior in your opinion. Some joke that really didn’t have an integral standing in the game is nothing to throw a hissy fit on the internet for. If you can’t explain in real life why you think its not a reason to buy the game without looking like a complete asshat, its not worth fighting over.

You “muh uncensored” guys on this site take dying on a hill of shit to a stupendously ludicrous standard. “Can’t seen enough of this loli character’s skin, no purchase from me.”
