Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Announced, Crowdfunded via Fig

While we’ve known a sequel was in the making for quite awhile now, Obsidian Entertainment has announced Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire.

The new game will be crowdfunded via Fig and is looking to raise $1.1 million in funds, with $2.25 million open for equity. Featured above, you can view the pitch video for the game.

Set as a direct sequel to the original Pillars of Eternity, a focus has been put on the statue of Caed Nua, which originally saw its conception as a meaty sidequest in the original game.

“Eothas … the god of light and rebirth was thought dead, but he now inhabits the stone titan that sat buried under your keep, Caed Nua, for millennia,” reads the press release.

“Ripping his way out of the ground, he destroys your stronghold and leaves you at the brink of death. To save your soul, you must track down the wayward god and demand answers — answers which could throw mortals and the gods themselves into chaos.”

The new story will enable players to adventure via both land and sea, and you’ll naturally experience a whole host of new environments and cultures. Obsidian has teased old party members returning in the sequel, as well as NPCs having their own schedules and dynamic questlines.

Finally, Obsidian also teased at having players be able to bring their original game save file to the new game, saying you can: “continue the story you began as the Watcher of Caed Nua … and see how your decisions and actions in the Dyrwood persist in Deadfire.”
