Phil Spencer Teases New Mistwalker JRPG in a Joking Tweet

Be careful what you say in the public forum, that is if you’re a notable developer or figurehead at a company like Phil Spencer of Microsoft. In a reply to a tweet from a fan asking if he was ready to tell fans that the beloved Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi was working on something for Xbox One, he simply said: “Tuesday…”

There’s a few things to take from this, for one the fan also said “Just fishing… humor me.” before Spencer replied, and in the fallout of press scrambling to chalk up his response as news on a slow news day, he came around and confirmed that he was simply joking.

Spencer said that he simply “humored” him, and that he picked a random day with no month or year, and that he apologized if his comment made too much noise. He poked more fun at the situation in saying that he had to come up with something now, but that he wasn’t ready to announce anything right now.

In case you were wondering if Spencer actually was in talks with Sakaguchi-san at any point recently, he flatly denied the possibility. “I like Sakaguchi-san, doing BD and LO was really great. Apologies again if I created anticipation.” Spencer said. “I haven’t talked MW in awhile.”

Lastly, he cracked a few more jokes, saying that his PR handlers would love it if he could make news just by calling out random days of the week, and that he should call Sakaguchi-san today so that they can come up with something new. So there you have it folks, be careful what you wish or ask for, you just might have your hopes crushed – in a playful way at least.
