Phantom Brave Launches for PC on July 25

phantom brave 05-16-16-6

NIS America has announced the release date for Phantom Brave on PC.

The Nippon Ichi Software-developed RPG will launch for PC via Steam on July 25th, news confirmed at this year’s Anime Expo.

Here’s a brief refresher on the game, via NIS America:

On a small, lonely island in Ivoire lives Ash, a Phantom who lost his life in battle, and Marona, who has the ability to communicate with Phantoms. Sometimes, Marona receives Bottlemails that float along the sea.

Marona, who lost her parents when she was very young, makes her living by completing the requests inside the Bottlemails as a Chroma, a person who accepts freelance work to solve problems for people. However, because of her abilities, the people call her the “Possessed.” Even if she completes her work, some clients will hesitate to pay her the reward because of her reputation.

Still, Marona stays optimistic and follows what her parents told her long ago: “Help people, and someday everyone will start to like you.” Her goal is to save enough money to buy Phantom Isle, which she’s currently renting. Like a subtle wave in the sea, the adventures of Marona and Ash are about to begin.

I never got the chance to finish it (My games got stolen way back when) but when I got it on PS2 around the time it launched it was pretty fun. I’d recommend it.

Definitely having this. Phantom Brave & Soul Nomad and the World Eaters we’re among my all time favorites. Makai Kingdom too.

Hope this prompts ports of the two latter at some point too.

Ive played this back on the Wii !! a long time ago xD

Awesome game its just like Disgaea except its not grid base instead you move your characters within a circle that show the distance of their movements.

gridless disgaea with environmental effects on movements and a huge cast of characters. Ton of post-game content too I believe, and it has random dungeons and titles instead of item worlds.

Let’s be honest, there’s only 2 genuinely valid reasons:

1.-What @日塔 奈美 friend says “I like to look at the boxes”
2.-You like to sell your 60$ games a week after beating them for 15$ at Gamestop

    Because the other bunch like

    >they will last longer
    >if Steam/X platform dies you will never be able to play them again
    >I actually own them

    Etc are meh at best.

I mean, I don’t disagree that coming with just a Steam code instead of a physical game disc is lame but calling it junk is going too far. Having a physical mini-artbook and a LE box is nice for collectors.

You’re a few weeks late on reporting this news.

But anyways, this game is really awesome! WAY better than Disgaea. Its storyline is a lot more personal, and the relationship between Marona and her brother is touching. Its gameplay is also a lot more strategic. I like the emphasis it puts on carefully timing when and where you summon allies since they can only be on the field for a few turns before vanishing for the rest of the battle. Makes me sad that this only had one game while Disgaea lived on.

Anyways, I’m really glad that NISA keeps porting these, and they’re doing surprisingly fantastic PC ports of these games, truly making each PC port the definitive version of their games. Really hope they bring over Soul Nomad, Makai Kingdom, and Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure next.

This “STEAM IS DRM” shit is one of the most fucking obnoxious things that happened in the last few years. Yeah, it is a form of DRM but it isn’t fucking broken bullshit like Starforce or Securom. Did you idiots forget about that stuff or are you just new? That stuff actively fucked with your registry and also had an INSTALL RESTRICTION OF UP TO 5 TIMES. And whenever an install failed it used up one of those installs. Steam is 10000000000x better than that shit. It is a form of DRM that ties your games to an account, so I’m failing to see the problem here because it isn’t like that dumbass Microsoft shit that they tried to pull back in 2013 with the XBONE, by making it always online, because guess what STEAM HAS AN OFFLINE MODE THAT WORKS. FFS, it isn’t like Steam PREVENTS you from playing your games offline. Yeah, it doesn’t work for some games, but it works more often than not.

I’m not saying Valve are saints, because I’ll criticize them to hell and back, but back in 2007-2008 when PC gaming was at a low Steam helped picked it back up with their insane sales that drew people back to the platform. With the large libraries that people do have, why would you want physical versions of all the games? Besides back when physical versions of games existed you still had codes and shit that would make it more difficult to give the game to a friend, so it isn’t that different except now you have a dvd and a shitty case. While family share is cumbersome and restrictive it still works for most people.

If you are going to bitch at Valve, there are a myriad of other things you could complain about, such as the Steam client effectively being almost a decade old and it still runs like shit. Or the fact that Valve still has some of the worst customer service and game curating in the entire industry. Or their shitty reaction to hacks to people’s accounts and breaches to their own service. Or their draconian way the deal with VAC bans even when someone had a breach that wasn’t their own fault. Or the fact that they seem to just fuck around all day at the office while some of the people actually do work. Or their desperation to monetize ever little thing about Steam, their games, and other people’s games. There are plenty of things to complain about with Steam. The DRM thing is the smallest thing.

More like to have something that wont be controlled and eventually taken away by the service/publisher for whatever reason

Though physicals tend to be printed and shipped while bearing technical issues that need to be patched (even in niche games), no thanks to digital becoming mainstream. Another reason why piracy sounds also a better alternative.

    >More like to have something that wont be controlled and eventually taken away by the service/publisher for whatever reason

And this has only happen a handful of times in the last decade. in fact I can only remember Afro Samurai in recent memory being pulled off Steam and the account of the people who bought it because the Dev/Publisher acknowledge it was a borderline scam with how awful it was so they decided to pull it off and refund everyone.

    >inb4 but what if Steam or X Service dies!

Probably because “controlled” is a really broad statement that doesn’t say much.

You can mean that you don’t want your games to be updated/patched.

Or you can mean that maybe one day some crazy dev will do something awful to the game like suddenly cut half the game or w/e just because.

Or that you don’t want them to suddenly take it off your account. Which I already give my opinion about it in the previous post.

It can mean a lot of stuff. So be more specific.

  36. NuclearKangaroo

i dont see why physical releases “shouldnt” have DRM

  37. NuclearKangaroo
    July 4, 2016 at 8:09 pm

according to that logic, piracy is better than pretty much anything, free shit nigga

you pay for PC games to support the dev and get it to keep pumping games, you can get 99% of games for free

besides this idiotic “OMG STEAM DRM IS THE WORST, IMMA GONNA PIRATE IT NAO” is contributing to the rise of denuvo as the most effective form of DRM around

now this doesnt really affect me because i buy my games, but i suppose pirates should be more careful lest they find themselves with less and less new games to play

    just something to consider

    >Worth to mention that no matter what, it’s always legal customers (buyfags) biting the dust.

that doesnt seem to be the case with denuvo, you buy the game, you get the game, no need for always online or shit like that, same with steamworks, this is why neither of those forms of DRM really bother me that much

its the pirates who should be careful about letting denuvo become the main for of copy protection around, tough that seems inevitable now, steamworks is the equivalent of putting a “do not steal please” label on your product, denuvo on the other hand… well, some very very sad pirates are still waiting for cracks of just cause 3, d44m, etc

“Steam and other similar services killed that market of used goods that I’m into, why would I support them?”

its not like PC had a huge market of used games to begin with, besides the argument in favor of used games is a lot less valuable when the prices for games on PC are now so low, in part thanks to steam, which was a godsend for fellas like me on a tight budget who wanted to play multiplayer games

you dont HAVE to support steam, but unless less people decide to pirate, soon you will have no option thanks to denuvo

    1. Steam has region based price, if your country is poor then the price will be adjusted to your country’s living standard
    2. If you still can’t afford it then wait for a sale, I saw titles get discounted to 75%. Super cheap!

If you still can’t afford games this cheap then don’t claim that you’re handling your money in smart way LOL !!

You seem to constantly ignore about “used goods” (even despite money is involved this time, it still doesnt go to publishers and creators just like piracy), but I suppose that’s expected from a buyfag trying to justify that his digital purchase wasnt completely useless.

  63. EroBotan
    July 6, 2016 at 7:22 am

obviously buying used goods is not the same as piracy, it’s common sense lol.

but first, i don’t believe that people like you buy used goods lol. You will just pirates stuff like you always do. Babling about used goods is just your lies to justify your piracy.

you want cheap price? steam is super cheap, most likely can be much cheaper then used goods lol. With physical used goods the price can rise exponentially if it’s rare stuff, something that won’t happen with digital goods. Wait .. could it be that you’re one of those used goods seller who jacked up the price to crazy level when it comes to rare stuff? Your hatred make sense then since digital download games killed your job. Well, I’m sorry for your lose dude but life is hard for almost everyone, so move on pls?

  64. Smug

“obviously buying used goods is not the same as piracy, it’s common sense lol.”
If you did have common sense, you wouldnt use the word “stealing” on something that isnt even material, and is just a bunch of files actually being copied and shared (which is the whole point of piracy). Do you also get mad when people also share their game copies?

If you also had anything of a brain, you would see in my argument that buying used goods is worse than piracy, since I’m willing to spend money but none to the guys who made the game.

But I know good goyims like you are really brainwashed trained well, they defend companies fucking over their costumers for free.
