Sega have announced an Independence Day-themed in-game event for Phantasy Star Online 2.
The brand-new event, while highly American-themed, is somewhat justified within the game’s lore.
“When you think about it, ARKS stands for freedom; freedom from certain destruction by the Falspawn, that is. The shield that brave ARKS Operatives provide with their actions is what makes life possible for countless civilians living amongst the Ships. Their courage should be celebrated, and so ARKS HQ has decided to hold a brand new event for Phantasy Star Online 2.”
The event will bring decor changes to the Ship, Seasonal Client Orders, and new Urgent Quests. The Independence Day Boost will offer an additional 50% XP, an additional 50% Rate Item Drop Rate, and 50% more Meseta’s earned.
The aforementioned Client Orders will come from Xia, and the currency you earn from completing them (“GLORY BADGE 2020“) can be used to purchase special cosmetic items, an emote, and a consumable Berry Pie (“10 minute Triboost +50% effect!”)
The Urgent Quest is dubbed “Virtual Planet Battle Practice.” With “very similar to environments that will be encountered in Episode 4,” it will “test an operative’s ability to utilize their environment, employ new modes of travel, and develop new strategies to battle enemies they’ve never encountered.”
Completing it may earn players the following rewards:
- Snow Camellia | ★ 13 Sword
- Hyoutenka | ★ 13 Assault Rifle
- Paraselene| ★ 13 Rod
- * Charleville1776| Weapon Camo
The announcement concludes with warm wishes from the developers.
“ARKS Operatives are responsible for the freedom with which civilians can go about their daily lives, and the Independence Day Event will honor them (and others who performed a similar feat for their civilization.) So enjoy a slice of Berry Pie and see where the next quest takes you! Happy Independence Day, Arks!”
The Independence Day will run in North American versions of the game from June 24th to July 22nd.
Phantasy Star Online 2 is available Windows PC (via the Microsoft Store) and Xbox One worldwide, and PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Nintendo Switch in Japan. The game is also free-to-play.
