Like him or hate him, PewDiePie is a Youtube and internet phenomenon. He’s so big nowadays, that he’s making a presumably gigantic sum of money annually off the advertisements on his videos. Now, we’ve gotten a sense of his internet fame money, thanks to a piece by the Wall Street Journal.
For those who don’t know, PewDiePie’s real name is Felix Kjellberg, and he currently has over 27 million subscribers on his Youtube channel. That’s a lot of fans, and it has catapulted him into a great deal of money – at least $4 million dollars a year. Let me say that again – he gets over $4 million dollars a year to play video games and publish videos of himself playing them on the internet.
Pewds attributes more to his success than that, however, as he points out that his videos are in essence, more uncut and raw in comparison to other Let’s Players:
“Unlike many professionally produced shows, I think I’ve established a much closer contact with my viewers, breaking the wall between the viewer and what’s behind the screen,” he said. “What I and other YouTubers do is a very different thing, it’s almost like hanging around and watching your pal play games. My fans care in a different way about what they are watching.”
Despite the massive amount of money that Pewds makes, he donates a great deal of it into charities, like Charity: Water, and Save the Children, both of which equal over a million dollars in donations.
