10 Chambers, a studio with former Payday devs, is working on a new cooperative heist game, not long after their co-op horror shooter GTFO launched.
Creative director Ulf Andersson (who worked on Payday 1 and 2) talked up their next project at Gamescom 2022, saying making a game in the heist genre “feels like an unclosed chapter.”
“So for me, this game is a game that just has to be made,” said Andersson said to NME. “I’m back on the heist shit, basically – so it’s a heist cooperative FPS, and it has a sort of a techno-thriller theme. I read a lot of sci-fi books, and so imagine everything that cyberpunk is inspired by, and a ton of other shit.”
Andersson made it clear that the game wouldn’t be tons of shooting like the Payday series, though.
“Payday had a massive problem where the action would ramp up and then it would just stay ramped up,” Andersson said. Fans seem to still love Payday 2 even nearly a decade later, and the game is still receiving new content while Overkill Software is still prepping up the third game.
Whatever their new game ends up being called, Andersson noted its in pre-production yet things are “ramping up quite fast.”
