Paul Reubens of Pee-Wee Herman fame has died age 70

Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee Herman)

Paul Reubens, the actor and comedian best known for his role as the titular character Pee-Wee Herman has reportedly passed away at the age of 70.

Reubans began his career in the 1970s but it wasn’t until he began parading his character Pee-Wee Herman that he hit it big. Pee-Wee Herman’s first theatric appearance was in the 1980 film Cheech & Chong’s Next Movie. After some self-promotion he was able to take Pee-Wee as a character onto original projects like the Pee-Wee Herman Show.

According to the “authentic” Pee-Wee Herman Facebook page, Reubens lost his battle with cancer:

Last night we said farewell to Paul Reubens, an iconic American actor, comedian, writer and producer whose beloved character Pee-wee Herman delighted generations of children and adults with his positivity, whimsy and belief in the importance of kindness. Paul bravely and privately fought cancer for years with his trademark tenacity and wit. A gifted and prolific talent, he will forever live in the comedy pantheon and in our hearts as a treasured friend and man of remarkable character and generosity of spirit.
