Paper Beast Delayed to Q1 2020, New Gameplay Trailer

Pixel Reef have released a gameplay trailer for Paper Beast alongside confirming the game has been delayed.

The upcoming PlayStation VR title (headed by Another World creator Eric Chahi) was due for release in 2019, now delayed to Q1 2020. The non-VR version on PlayStation 4 will be available at a later date.

The accompanying PlayStation Blog post by Pixel Reef creative director Eric Chahi details how the game is designed to feel like you are exploring somewhere no human has even been- with fauna and flora looking like it is made of origami.

Along with non-verbal clues and hints from the creatures, their movements are designed to be more natural despite their surreal appearance. Here’s a bit from the developer:

“Thanks to our physical simulation of locomotion, the animals move as if they had muscles and bones. This technology is the core of the gameplay: the engine calculates the creatures’ movement in real time to allow them to react to all the player’s actions. Creatures will also adapt their movements to the terrain and the obstacles on their path.”

Once again, Paper Beat will launch Q1 2020 for PlayStation VR, and later for PlayStation 4.
