P.A. Works Announces Wild West Steampunk Samurai Car Race Anime “Appare-Ranman!”

P.A. Works have announced their latest project: Appare-Ranman!

Set just before the turn of the 20th century, brilliant but awkward engineer Sorano Appare, and wily but cowardly samurai Isshiki Kosame end up in America. Broke, both of them enter the Trans-America Wild Race to win enough money to return home to Japan. Racing from Los Angeles to New York through steam-powered cars, the race is full of crazy characters to make a wild ride.

The original story concept was by Apperacing, with project planning by Takeshi Kikuchi and Daijō Kudō. It will be directed by Masakazu Hashimoto (Shin-Chan, Soul Eater Not!, Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva). Masakazu will also be supervising scripts, and created the initial story drafts.

Character design will be by Yurie Oohigashi, though these will based on original designs by Ahndongshik. Yurie will also be the chief animation director. Mechanical designs- such as the vehicles- will be done by Shihio Takeuchi. Music will be composed by Evan Call (Violet Evergarden).
