Overwatch 2’s “Calling All Heroes” tournament is facing some backlash over their code of conduct rules that specifically ban the act of “teabagging” other players.

To describe what “teabagging”, for those who don’t know, it’s the in-game act of going over a dead enemy and spam crouching over them to simulate a sexual act.

This is generally done to either assert dominance or in good fun as it has been a staple of PvP multiplayer for decades now.

This ban has received some backlash from fans of Overwatch 2. One of the most upvoted comments on the Reddit post about this topic reads, “A no Tbag rule is only reinforcing stereotypes of this being a snowflake turny”.

The “Calling All Heroes” tournament is meant as an initiative to support “members of marginalized gender-identities” with only those who “identify as women, transgender, non-binary, or genderfluid” being allowed to enter.

“Teabagging” has become more of a controversial topic in the esports world as of late. With bans occurring to professional players in Apex Legends and Riot Games considering banning those who perform this act in their game, Valorant.

Ironically Overwatch 2 has a spray called “tea time” which is meant to reference this long running act in the gaming community.

Overwatch 2 has been available since October 2022 for Windows PC (via Battle.net), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.
