• Overwatch 2 adds cringey ‘Kitten of Discord’ title

    Overwatch 2 has introduced the remarkably self-aware “Kitten of Discord” title on the new Season 13 Battle Pass.

    For those unaware, a “Discord Kitten” refers to some weird parasocial dynamic that’s characterized by older men seeking out women on Discord to flirt with, play games with, and often times send money to. It’s like a sadder version of OnlyFans “paypigs”.

    The phrase has also permeated gaming as a whole, and is associated with a similar dynamic between Tank/DPS players with their healer “kittens”. This cliche is fittingly associated with Overwatch where the character Mercy has been criticized for her passive playstyle and reliance on other teammates, it’s also common in League of Legends with the role of ADC and Support being similarly associated.

    Response to the title has been largely split, though maybe that was intentional and the title will be used ironically. One fan said: “blocking anyone I see with this title“. Conversely another fan said: “my time has come“.

    Overwatch 2 has been available for Windows PC (via Battle.net), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.
