Overkill’s The Walking Dead Game is Officially Killed Off

Following a delay to an unannounced date for consoles, Skybound Entertainment has announced they’re cutting off ties with Starbreeze Studios, and they’re killing off Overkill Software’s The Walking Dead shooter.

The publisher issued a statement to Variety noting development on the game wasn’t progressing well enough.

“Our creators and their stories are the core of Skybound, and since 2014 we have worked hard to expand the world of ‘The Walking Dead’ into an exceptional co-op action FPS. We did our best to work with Starbreeze and resolve many issues that we saw with the game, but ultimately ‘Overkill’s The Walking Dead’ did not meet our standards nor is it the quality that we were promised.”

Overkill’s The Walking Dead was released for Windows PC, but had console versions planned for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The publisher, founded by David Alpert and The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, apologized to fans saying they “share their disappointment in the game.”

Furthermore, Skybound noted they “remain dedicated to providing our fans with the most premium quality content we can offer, and will continue to look for alternative video game options for the IP.”
