Cozy camper adventure game Outbound has announced a closed alpha players can experience ahead of its full release.

Starting on April 14th, players who sign up for the beta will be invited to a closed alpha before the full game’s release later in the year.

There is a focus on sustainability in Outbound. The game takes place in the near future where humans have managed to defeat climate change and pollution – shutting down polluting companies and creating an economy based on ethical, green lifestyles. Wind farms can be spotted in the release footage, and there is no coal or oil mining anywhere in this world.

The game is divided into several biomes. In the aforementioned closed alpha, players will get to drive their van around the first biome consisting of lush fields and vibrant forests. Players will get to check out the game’s building system and play with up to three other players at a time in co-op mode.

On a blog post on Steam, developer Square Glade Games says, “The closed alpha is an early build of the game and we want to test mechanics and overall stability with a limited number of players,’ going on to say that not everyone who signs up will be able to play the closed alpha. Lucky players will be selected at random.

Outbound has so far been a pretty good success tale for an indie game. Smashing their Kickstarter goals and raking in nearly $300,000 on Kickstarter last year, the game very quickly developed a dedicated following.

Unlike so many other Kickstarter games that end up getting postponed year after year, Outbound is going full-speed ahead towards a promised release date, garnering good press along the way.

While Outbound will release sometime in 2026 for Windows PC (via Steam) and Xbox Series X|S.
