We’ve learned the original Xbox controller, you know, the one that was bigger than a Japanese schoolgirl, is making a comeback.
Sometimes called “The Duke,” the gargantuan piece of gaming hardware was eventually phased out by the more popular Controller S style (the only model available in Japan, mind you). One of the original Microsoft engineers who created what would eventually be called the Xbox confirmed that the massive piece of kit is returning.
“NewDuke has gone to tooling and is approved by Xbox THIS IS HAPPENING!,” Seamus Blackley confirmed over on Twitter.
The Xbox logo in the center of the controller is an honest-to-goodness display (that actually has an animation to boot), while the controller itself will have “many improvements but the same old feel,” news also confirmed by Blackley. The new controller is being made in collaboration with hardware manufacturer Hyperkin.
Finally, a release date nor pricing were confirmed, but Hyperkin will be taking pre-orders.
