Original Diablo II Save File Can be Transferred to Diablo II: Resurrected

Diablo II: Resurrected

Blizzard Entertainment have confirmed that the original Diablo II save files can transfer into Diablo II: Resurrected.

In an interview with IGN Middle East, Game Producer Matthew Cederquist was asked if this was possible, to which he confirmed it emphatically. “Yes! Yes, keep those! […] Back when we were working on [the remaster], we wondered if the old save files would work and we kind of shoved it in and it worked! And we were like, ‘okay, that’s the best feature ever’.”

Principal Designer Rob Gallerani had previously confirmed that the remake would not be replacing the original game. Gallerani compared the original Diablo II as a puppet-master, while Resurrected was the puppet. He also semi-jokingly asked players not to stand in doorways. Characters are still moving in a grid based world, but presented with 3D graphics.

Other underlying programming from the original also exists. As the original game ran on frames rather than time (utilizing break-points when skills would result in actions between frames), so will Diablo II: Resurrected.

Game Designer Andre Abrahamian also confirmed in the IGN interview that there will be a “legacy toggle,” so players can alternate between the original, and new graphics.
