There’s a new horror game getting ready to release on Steam, and this one is about working conditions at a retail giant like Amazon. Well, the shipping place in the game is fictional, but the analogies to Amazon are everywhere.
In Order 13, you play as a worker at a gigantic warehouse, working for a giant internet-based corporation. Working under grueling, inhumane conditions, your job pack orders and ship them out… no matter what it takes, as the AI boss tells you, hiding an obvious menacing threat.
Order 13’s developer is Cybernetic Walrus. The choice by Cybernetic Walrus to make an Amazon-style horror game is a timely one, considering all the reports that have been coming out recently (and decades prior) about abuse of workers at Amazon warehouses.
Jezz Bezos, one of the richest men in the world and CEO of Amazon, has also been in the news lately due to censorship at media outlets he owns, such as the Washington Post, such as killing a cartoon that was critical of his business.
As one commenter upon seeing Order 13’s YouTube trailer pointed out, “Making a horror game inspired by Chuck E Cheese’s-like FNAF is cool and everything, but Order 13’s target is far less sympathetic and far more omnipresent in our lives than Chuck E Cheese ever was.”
Order 13 will likely go viral with playthroughs by Markiplier and Jacksepticeye when it releases, but until then, you can watch the debut teaser trailer below:
If you’re more interested in Order 13, you can wishlist its Steam page. And if you feel like checking out an indie horror title that was overlooked when it released a little while ago, check out Toby’s Topsy Tale, which we covered here.
