Open Beta for Battlefield 1 Kicks Off August 31

Electronic Arts and DICE have announced the launch date for Battlefield 1’s open beta.

Fans will be able to partake in older warfare on August 31st, across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. If you sign up as a Battlefield Insider and select a platform of choice before August 21st, you’ll be eligible to enter the open beta.

Fans can expect the open beta to include both the Rush and Conquest modes, as well as the Sinai Desert map, which features a new controllable Armored Train behemoth, as well as horses (that you can ride, naturally) and three new elite classes (including Sentry, Flame Trooper, and Tank Hunter). This map supports up to 64 players.

Featured above, Electronic Arts released the shooter’s new Gamescom 2016 trailer, in celebration of the open beta news.

Battlefield 1 is launching across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 21st.

I’m tempted to join this to see how the servers fair. God forbid we have a repeat of BF4’s train wreck of a launch.

The more I see of this game, the less enamored I become, both as a student of history and someone annoyed by creeping political correctness.

In the multiplayer gameplay and trailers, EVERYONE is running around with portable automatic weapons when those were exceedingly rare (as a proportion of the total firearms) at the time. They have tanks in the desert. Never happened. Going like 60kph. Couldn’t do it. There were no air attacks on battleships in WW1.

The latest thing is they have their imaginary Bedouin female amazon killing a rapist at the end for some reason… there was plenty of real rapes that happened in WW1, they didn’t need to invent one for their imaginary empowered Arab feminist.

Fuckin right. I’m really stoked for this game so I really hope the servers hold up. I can’t wait to slam biplanes into zeppelins.

Indeed, I was really hoping they’d lock the history down but the more I see the less it looks like they’ll do so. I can understand it from a gameplay standpoint but its still disappointing. I’m a huge history fan (the only reason I can still extract even a bit of enjoyment out of Assassin’s Creed, after the games go on sale of course) so I was really hoping they’d stick closer to the actual historical situations. I’m a big fan of Battlefield multiplayer though so I’ll likely enjoy this regardless as long as the gameplay is closer to BF4 than Battlefront.
