D3 Publisher and Clouded Leopard Entertainment have revealed more gameplay for bikini-babe zombie-killing hack and slasher Onee Chanbara Origin.
As previously reported, the game is a HD remake of The Onechanbara and The Onechanbara 2. This includes a new art style and characters redesigned by the series designer Katsumi Enami, and “optimized storytelling.” The game is available in Japan, and launches October 14th in the west and other regions on Windows PC (via Steam), and PlayStation 4.
The story follows zombie-hunting half-sisters Aya and Saki; both forced to put aside their fight to the death to work together. The pair seek their father, who left a message saying “Eva” was the one behind his wife’s death (which subsequently drove Saki mad in her quest to avenge her mother).
This hack and slash adventure will task players with completing objectives will slaying zombies. Players can also use the Cool Combination mechanic that rewards well-timed combos, but novice players can still string together combos regardless.
As their weapons become caked in blood, the sisters can also turn into demons for a short period via Berserk and Xstatic modes- gaining tremendous power at the cost of their life energy. Each zombie hunter will also have unique abilities.
We also previously reported the game’s South Korean publisher Clouded Leopard Entertainment posted their own gameplay overview. While that focused on Aya, this new footage focuses on Saki and Lei.
Saki is Aya’s sister. She is playable from the second-half of the game. Saki’s main weapon is a long katana, but she (like Lei) can also kick to stun foes. She can also pummel foes with her gauntlets. Her Xtacy Combo is also shown off.
Saki’s gameplay also shows levels have Goddess Statues where plays can restore HP, that players can dodge foes, how to shake blood off your weapon so it does not grow weaker, and switching characters as you play. Her Berserk and Xtatic forms are also shown., as well as a boss battle.
Lei is an Undead Hunter and informant who helps Aya via her phone. Lei’s primary weapon is her survival knife, but she also has a shotgun, and her weapon box can fire a laser.
By reloading with perfect timing, Lei will enter Bloody Mode to power up her attacks, and unleash powerful special moves. Bloody Mode requires Bloody Crystals (also used for her laser), gathered by beating up zombies.
Lei’s Cool Finisher is also shown off, along with using items during fights, camera mode, and in-game side quest that unlock equipment, music, and illustrations.
