One to One Scale Recreation of Denmark Within Minecraft is Blown Up and Claimed by Americans

We’ve reported on some huge projects within Minecraft by individuals or groups of fans, but this is the first time we’ve ever heard of a country actually using the game as a platform to … recreate their entire country?! Denmark did just that, and they even built the map at a 1:1 scale.

The map is comprised of roughly 4000 x billion bricks and roughly one terabyte of data, all of which was utilized via the Danish Geodata Agency’s 3D elevation model. The end result was meant to be used as a teaching tool for students and citizens alike, but unfortunately some players had other plans.

A group (the numbers are unknown now) of presumably American players took to the server and found an exploitation – despite the fact that dynamite was disabled to prevent the destruction of the map on a large scale, but the minecart with dynamite was not. So they got a lot of dynamite and destroyed lots of the terrain, as well as the Danish towns.

What did they do after the mayhem and carnage took place? They planted American flags, American tanks, and wrote the worlds “AMERICA” and “‘MERICA” all over the place as well. The report of their actions comes via The Register, who also spoke to representatives from the Danish Geodata Agency:

“We consider that as a nature of playing Minecraft – elements are broken down and new are being created. Therefore we will not reboot the demonstration of Denmark in Minecraft. But occasionally we will rebuild minor areas if buildings are removed and nothing new is being created.”

You can actually download the map itself via the Danish Geodata Agency’s website. The map has been very popular with over 200K downloads, and this bit of mayhem is probably going to just increase that.
