One man Japanese developer Polygonomicon has released the first gameplay trailer for high-speed sword combat action game Varvarion.
Inspired by 80s and 90s fantasy anime, the 3D action brawler sees players controlling savage barbarians, orcs, and cat girls in lightning-fast sword fights; with lightning fast dodging and heavy blows.
According to the developer’s Twitter [1, 2, 3], the goal is to make a skill-based game that felt like a playable anime sword-fight with acrobatic jumping and flipping- 1 on 1 or with multiple characters and enemies. The game is early in development but supports split-screen multiplayer, with the full game supporting online multiplayer.
While platforms have not been announced in the trailer itself, Polygonomicon stated on Twitter “Being a solo dev, Steam is the most likely candidate so far, Yes.” Regarding early access, they stated they were “considering all options. But what ever the next step, it will need time to be polished enough to be presentable to public.”
You can find the gameplay trailer below, along with several gameplay .gifs posted to Twitter by the developer.

トレーラーだとぱっと見1対1の対戦ゲームに見えるけど、実際は多対多のバトルも可能なシステムになっています。
The trailer may give an impression that it is a 1on1 game, but it actually supports many vs many combat as well. pic.twitter.com/91GTy0OvZG— 蛮勇戦域VARVARION(バルバリオン) (@polygonomicon) November 7, 2020
ちょっと普通と違うけどつかみ技っぽいシステムも用意してます。
ガードを崩す技というよりは、打撃で崩れた相手にとどめを刺すイメージ。
A semi-Grab type attack is also available.
It is more of a finisher than an anti-guard system. pic.twitter.com/UVTzMQB4Qo— 蛮勇戦域VARVARION(バルバリオン) (@polygonomicon) November 8, 2020
一個前のGIF、ちょっとフレーム落ちが激しかったので60fpsで書き出しなおしました。
OK, the last GIF ended up a bit framey, here is a 60FPS one.

飛んだり跳ねたりしつつ攻防が目まぐるしく変わっていくアクロバティックなアニメチャンバラをゲームとして遊びたい!というのが出発点。
The main goal is to make "Anime Swordfight" directly in to a playable game. The jumping an flipping acrobatic type specifically. pic.twitter.com/ZAIrb11jOO— 蛮勇戦域VARVARION(バルバリオン) (@polygonomicon) November 8, 2020
