Odd New Kickstarter Project Promises Open World Star Wars RPG?

Recently, a new Kickstarter project promising to create an open world “like” Star Wars game has been sighted on the crowd funding service, and while that isn’t entirely uncommon, the dubious nature of its proclamations may be. Not only does the author, Devin Tripp, claim to not have the official support of Disney or Lucasfilm, he also has nothing in the way of concept art. Nothing more than a few paragraphs of text, essentially.

Like many of us when we were kids, we wanted to be like Luke Skywalker or obi jim Kenobi, but like all of us, we do not live in a galaxy far far away. There might be another way, though. With all the open world RPGs out there how is there not a good one for Star Wars? I have decided to take matters into my own hands and write a story in the star wars universe that will fit inside an RPG video game that I have not created. I am currently looking into talking with Disney if I am able to do this. If not then there might have to be a compromise on the name or some other parts. I need your help. I am not a very good programmer, and I’m an even worst artist. I want to put this project into the hands of professionals, but in order to do that, I need money to hire them. This was my dream as a kid I hope you can share my same compassion, thank you.

Much has been made of this elsewhere on the net, and it’s highly likely that the person responsible for the project is trying to point out the ridiculousness of Kickstarter and why so many have lost faith in both it and crowdfunding in general. The fact that he has changed his incorrect spelling of Obi Wan twice (Originally Obi Juan, now Obi Jim) and the obviously silly nature of the project combined with the declaration that the money is going towards “Copyrights and hiring some professionals” adds some validity to that theory.

He also seems to be aware, and perhaps enjoying, the game journalist’s reports of his project since the final sentence of his blog seems to poke fun of their poking fun of his deliberate misspellings. Still, it has done us a favor by giving us some funny comments from would-be donors:

Freetings Sir. I am big man business from New York Citeh. Understand the cash money you needing may not quite sufice for project of your dreams so majestic, isn’t it? Rightfully I think you need large backer pledge to include such well known players as Big Van Vader and Bobby Fett in the game. Will the game be includes aero plain like X-WIng and Tye-Fighter? If you are requiring further pledge to making game as goodly as Fallout 4 please allow a man business to lend you more money. I only ask you basing a player of my own creation I naming Captain John-Luke Peecard. I do not mind how he looks but his aero plain must be speedier than any other plain. Thank you kindly.

This is interesting timing, considering last month it was revealed that an open world Star Wars game was being planned by EA. Clever marketing hype or trolling? Either way, it is a little over $18,000 of its stated 200k goal with 96 backers. It should be interesting to see how long it stays up.
