Octopus City Blues is described as an “authentic Octopus City simulation”, but it’s definitely much more than that. If the gorgeous pixel art didn’t catch your attention from the get go, the downright crazy story will.
The octopus city is seen through the eyes of Kaf Kafkaryan, a cowardly middle-aged octopus blood junkie. You see, the entire world of Octopus City Blues is built around a giant octopus – everything is tied into the giant octopus’ body, even its blood (which is used as a drug).
Gameplay in Octopus City Blues is more akin to an old school adventure game, only there are various elements that make the game very interesting. The dialogue system in the game is robust and also incorporates a stress system, meaning you’ll have to manage Kaf’s stress levels.
You can learn many abilities like spin dashing, cutting dead tentacles, interpretive dancing and even – dumpster diving.

Here are the full planned features for the game:
- An authentic Octopus City simulation offering nothing but the most lovely tentacles ever conceived; wonderful pixel art and animations bring the city to life with the help of a diverse soundtrack.
- Learn more about the city’s dark history and its corrupt inhabitants in a non-linear main story.
- Strange dreams to explore, each with its unique story and presentation.
- Exciting things are always happening in Octopus City. Each NPC has his or her personality, relationships, and daily schedule.
- More tentacles than the competition. You won’t be disappointed like that one game that had the word Tentacle in its title but featured only two of them.
- Learn exciting abilities such as: performing a spin dash, cutting dead tentacles, interpretive dancing, and dumpster diving.
- An open world experience offering a lot of flexibility in the order of attempting the main story quests. There are several ways to complete each quest and your choices have mysterious effects.
- A dialogue system built around acquiring knowledge and managing stress.
- Absolutely DRM-free. You will be able to change Kaf’s sprite into Sora from Kingdom Hearts or replace the OST with your favorite Hall & Oats album.
The game is being developed by a group of talented indies, Ghost in a Bottle, based out of Kuwait City, Kuwait, spearheaded by Firas Assaad. You can check out the game’s official site here.
They have no stretch goals as their only goal is to make this game the best experience it can possibly be. Considering that they’re already at $5000 of their $7000 goal when they have 26 days to go, you can bet they’ll be funded.
