Oblivion Remastered reveals new difficulty option in 1.2 update

Oblivion Remastered

Co-developers Bethesda Game Studios and Virtuos announced a new update for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered adding a new difficulty alongside fixing numerous bugs.

While the new 1.2 update is currently available on Steam beta, it’ll be available to all PC and console players soon. Chief among the new changes and updates is the addition of a new “Journeyman” difficulty option in between the previous “Adept” and “Expert” options.

The update also addresses a bevy of bugs that have been plaguing fans since its release, ranging from a crash when fighting the Shivering Isles’ boss Jyggalag, to very strange bugs like when “paralyzing an already-paralyzed NPC.”

17 different issues across various quests were also fixed like NPCs floating after being knocked down during Priory of the Nine quest, as well as missing VFX during the closing of the Great Gate.

Lots of visual and performance enhancements were announced in the new update, including better framerates in more demanding areas of the game. Virtuous has also improved the performance overall in the main overworld, reducing the “frequency of hitches” players experienced.

A release date for the new update on all platforms hasn’t been confirmed but you can read the full patch notes here.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was released in April 2025 across Windows PC (via Steam and the Microsoft Store), Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and Game Pass. Get our review here!
