It’s come full circle: Firewatch developer Campo Santo has announced (via The Hollywood Reporter) they’re breaking out of the game’s industry and will begin producing motion pictures. Their first project? A film adaptation of their first game, Firewatch.
The developer has teamed up with production and financing company Good Universe to make not only movies, but games as well. The film adaptation doesn’t have a cast or release window in mind yet, so this may still be in pre-production.
Despite the rabid embrace the mainstream gaming press had for the game, lots of individual gamers simply labeled the game as a “walking simulator,” claiming Firewatch had no real gameplay mechanics and was focused entirely on dialogue, if that.
How do you guys feel about so-called “walking simulators,” and games receiving the film adaptation? Sound off in the comments below!
