No Monster Subspecies in Monster Hunter X

monster hunter x 11-27-15-1The latest issue of Nintendo Dream (via Hachima Kikou) has revealed an interesting new tidbit for Monster Hunter X.

The magazine had an interview where they confirmed there will be no subspecies of monsters, with the developer citing the reason being their focus on a wider variety of normal monsters.

While details are scant, Capcom said monsters specified as “Rathalos subspecies,” among others, won’t be in the game. They also said it “depends on what you consider a subspecies.”

Monster Hunter X is launching for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan on November 28th.

If this means less pallete swap and more monster variation, then I say bring ’em!

I’m fine with this. I’ve never really liked the subspecies. Always thought they were lazy.

Getting different monsters is definitely better.

Not really too disappointed. Some I liked, most I hated.

Get the fuck out, Pink Rathian, Azure Rathalos. You’re fucking terrible.

If I had my way, I would totally drop Rathalos and Rathian. They’re very boring, almost to the point of just clashing with the rest of the game. Their attack pattern is charge a bunch and spin around a bunch. So many monsters have just way more interesting AI.

I don’t know a ton about monster hunter, but from what I can gather, subspecies would be like, “Oh, you killed the scorpion? How about the red scorpion! Oh you beat that one? Watch out! here comes the blue scorpion!”

If that’s what they’re moving away from, then this is nothing but good news, and maybe… MAYBE this will be the monster hunter I finally jump on.

    But probably not.

isn’t it obvious? they are just going to re-release the game in 6 months with color swaps, call it a new game, and the sheeple are none the wiser
