Nippon Ichi Software has announced Sohei Niikawa resigned from his position as company president due to personal reasons.
While Niikawa’s resignation comes as abrupt and further details weren’t shared, company board chairman Koichi Kitazumi has taken over as president alongside maintaining his role as chairman as of today – August 19th.
Kitazumi has been a part of the company since it was founded back in 1993 – he was then a representative director and eventually became chairman and executive director in 2009, and later board chairman in 2016. He currently maintains a large portion of company shares – 480,000 in total.
Niikawa had a role in subsidiary NIS America, of which Nippon Ichi Software will make a consulting contract until his previous duties are transferred over. He had a big hand in the public presence of the company and its games, although quips regarding financial issues and rumor on financial troubles likely haven’t helped.
