Nintendo Sued by Gamevice Over Joy-Con Functionality

We’ve learned (via Engadget) the Nintendo is being slapped with a suit over the Nintendo Switch’s detachable Joy-Con controllers.

The claimant, Gamevice, are suing the company under the pretense that Nintendo’s design for the Joy-Con infringes on their patent for their “Wikipad” tablet and related accessories.

Here’s a look at one of their controller peripherals:

Their patent is for a concept of detachable controllers that can be attached on either side of a screen, or a “flexible bridge section.”

The lawsuit is looking for Nintendo to pay damages and to, hilariously, cease all further Nintendo Switch production and sales.

It’s worth re-iterating the lawsuit is purely focused on the detachable controllers, and not the Nintendo Switch itself – however considering each Switch literally needs the Joy-Cons for basic function, they’re correlating its purchasing availability to the main lawsuit.

Neither company has issue statements at the time of publication. We’ll keep you guys posted regarding this case.
