You may have read a post I did recently about Nintendo losing a patent case concerning the 3D technology used in the 3DS.

While this doesn’t concern that, it does concern a case from back in 2010 that was brought upon Nintendo by a company called IA Labs.  This was brought upon Nintendo due to the motion technology used in various accessories for the Wii such as the Wii remote and the balance board.  Nintendo ended up winning this particular lawsuit and IA Labs was ordered to pay Nintendo’s legal fees.  IA labs filed a counter suit, lost again, and was ordered to pay more of Nintendo’s legal fees.

IA Labs never did pay up and and due to this an auction was held for their assets and Nintendo acquired basically everything from IA Labs including their entire patent portfolio.

This is clearly a big victory for Nintendo but it really makes one wonder how they are going to handle the most recent case in which they lost.
