Nintendo has finally launched its Nintendo Account service in Japan.

You can register for an account even if you don’t own a current Nintendo console, via your smartphone or your PC. You can also sign up for a Nintendo Account via social media, like Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ (or via your Nintendo Network ID).

With your new Nintendo Account, you can search for and purchase software in the same way you can on the eShop, and if you turn on associated 3DS or Wii U systems, your purchases will automatically download.

Finally, in March 2016, purchases you make will begin accruing points that you can exchange for new content, and discounts.
