It appears that all three major game consoles could be seeing price increases, as Nintendo has stated they’re considering a Switch price hike.
The company noted the potential price increase during a recently financial call (via Bloomberg), but said they’re not considering a price increase – for now.
Nintendo’s specific response to the question was that they were monitoring the situation to carefully considering their actions. They have generally preferred to keep the cost of their consoles low due to viewing them as “toys” children buy, but the environment may not allow for that position anymore.
As reported before, Switch sales managed to reach 114 million lifetime sales, but have also seen a decline of roughly 20% as well. This led to them cutting their sales forecast for the systems which include the regular, lite, and OLED versions.
Recently, their competitor in Sony has increased the price of the PS5 in select regions due to economic conditions regarding currency fluctuation and inflation. While Xbox hasn’t done so yet, it has also been hinted at by Microsoft that they may be considering the same thing.
Still, for now, the Nintendo Switch console will remain at their current prices for the foreseeable future and certainly for this holiday season.
