Nintendo is acquiring SRD

Nintendo is acquiring SRD, the company that has worked with Nintendo for decades on their various game development.

The news that Nintendo is acquiring SRD was announced by the companies this morning, where Nintendo confirmed the intent on buying up 100 percent of SRD (Systems Research & Development) shares. The new acquisition is set to be completed on April 1st.

While SRD has been largely exclusively working with Nintendo over the decades with their beginnings focusing on porting Nintendo’s arcade games to the Famicom, they eventually started working in tandem with Nintendo’s internal EAD (Nintendo Entertainment Analysis & Development) division, which oversees the internal development of most core Nintendo titles.

Nintendo boasts the new acquisition will further strengthen the overall management of SRD and also secure software development resources for Nintendo’s other internal teams – alongside refining and improving their overall game development.

The new acquisition of SRD by Nintendo is certainly interesting in timing as Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said mere weeks ago they weren’t actively pursuing acquisitions like western companies – they wanted to focus on organic internal growth instead.
