When the new trailer for Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom came last week, fans were happy to see more gameplay.
However, fans weren’t happen when it was also revealed the upcoming title would be the company’s first Switch game retailing for $70.
Due to the increase of certain titles by major AAA companies to $70 from $60, many were concerned that Nintendo would be doing this as a standard moving forward as well.
However the company has countered against this in a new statement.
“No. We determine the suggested retail price for any Nintendo product on a case-by-case basis,” a Nintendo spokesperson said (via Digital Trends).
This appears to be the case, as the other big title showcased during the direct was Pikmin 4, which holds an MSRP of $60. Of course how this will unfold in the future remains to be seen.
That said, Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is certainly one of the most anticipated games for 2023.
It makes sense for Nintendo to make a bet on its success despite a higher price tag. After all, the previous title, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, has managed over 30 million sales since its launch back in 2017.
Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is set to launch on May 12, 2023 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
