Nintendo Directs to Continue, New Host Undecided

satoru iwata 09-15-15-1

We’ve learned (via IGN) that Nintendo is going to continue their Nintendo Direct broadcasts, following the unexpected passing of former Nintendo president Satoru Iwata this past July.

“Nintendo Directs will continue,” the representative for Nintendo told IGN. “But we have no details to provide now on who will be featured or the topics that will be covered.”

Iwata-san was the former host of the broadcasts, and he brought a memorable presence with him in each recording. Since his death, Nintendo has not held a new Nintendo Direct, but they have named a new interim president, Tatsumi Kimishima.

We’ll keep you guys posted.

I think the best alternative would be to put Reggie to do it. He has the charisma and is used to these appearances.

Make Sakurai do it. He has experience from the Smash Dojo updates.

Just keep Trinen doing it. He’s the only other person on staff qualified to do it in both English and Japanese anyways.

I think they’ll go with Miyamoto, and I based that on absolutely nothing :D

Miyamoto with subtitles would be great. Don’t see the guy enough. Japan is lucky having him in their directs.

Reggie is the most likely, although I do think he needs a more gentle and more involved in the dev side counterpart.

No, from what I’ve heard, he’s against anything that’s not Nintendo through and through and would be a detriment to anything beyond the well known Nintendo stuff.

Yeah, NoA and Reggie seem to be the side of the company that is the most: “If it’s not Kid-friendly or a well-known Nintendo brand, don’t show it” attitude that leads to Fatal Frame being Digital Only, not bringing games like:

    Doshin the Giant
    Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland
    Last Window
    Daigasso Band Brothers
    Another Code R
    Disaster: Day of Crisis
Xenoblade (released in NA exclusive to Gamestop after fan outcry)
The Last Story (published in the west by XSeed)
Pandora’s Tower (published in the west by XSeed)

That NoE already translated. Seems like Bernie Stolar v2. Plus not translating games like DQ7 and DQ8.

    Did anyone even like Tingle?
Dragon Quest is totally on SquareEnixes shoulders.

DQ is on Square Enix. Nintendo even asked if they could help out like they did with IX, and Square Enix said no.

The rest I agree with. If NoA had NoE’s attitude when it came to giving games a shot, that would be really nice.

He doesn’t strike me as someone particularly good to do presentations.

Not necessarily good at presentations, but more like his charm, plus the fanboys will love it.
