Nintendo announced today that it would be closing it’s offices in Großostheim, Germany and upwards of 130 people would be out of a job. They made these statements in an interview with Eurogamer.
“Nintendo of Europe has entered into a consultation process on a number of changes it is intending to make to its European business which, in the long term, will better enable the European business to adapt to the rapidly changing business environment,”
“The measures include the consolidation of the current European headquarters in Großostheim (Germany) to Frankfurt (Germany), the closure of the warehouse and office in Großostheim, as well as outsourcing and reorganising some functions,”
Nintendo went on to claim that they only did this after careful consideration and plans to sell the warehouse. Nintendo has already went on record as saying that the Wii U is selling well below expectations despite the recent surge it recently saw thanks to Mario Kart 8. Should we start worrying about Nintendo? I wouldn’t think so, this is a cut throat business after all.
