Nintendo previously confirmed that Super NES games were finally coming to the Nintendo 3DS eShop – however, the company said that only New Nintendo 3DS owners would be able to play them.
This confused quite a few people, leading them to wonder why only the New 3DS could play the classic, yet hardly demanding, games. Nintendo has issued a statement to Game Informer, in which they claim only the New 3DS CPU can handle the games at their expectations:
“As previously announced, New Nintendo 3DS has an improved CPU, which enables Super NES games to run on the system with quality results,” said a Nintendo representative to the website. “The Super NES games also include Perfect-Pixel mode, which allows players to see their games in their original TV resolution and aspect resolution.”
This is definitely a clear-cut response, however it will probably only further confuse and or anger fans, considering emulation for classic games at higher fidelity is readily available on a multitude of devices, including smartphones (Editor’s Note: It’s worth mentioning SNES games purchased on the Wii U must be re-purchased on the New Nintendo 3DS).
