Nintendo and Namco Were Considering an Earthbound Game for the Gamecube

New imagery has surfaced for what could have been an Earthbound game for the Nintendo GameCube.

The news comes via Yasuyuki Honne on Twitter, a video game artist, designer, director, and more for Monolith Soft games like Xenogears, Xenoblade Chronicles, and more.

Honne revealed the above and below images while reminiscing over his time at Namco, where he pitched a new Earthbound game to then-president Satoru Iwata.

Honne was prompted to finally reveal the project, which never saw the light of day (until now), after he saw news that Earthbound creator Shigesato Itoi is planning to release a book dedicated to Satoru Iwata.

“This is the picture that I never thought would see the light of day,” Honne noted. “My memories of summer 2003.”

While an Earthbound game was in development for the Nintendo 64 (and was later cancelled), this is the first time we’re learning a game was pitched, and maybe considered, for the GameCube.
