This Labor Day, you can wishlist Night of the Consumers on PC, which just announced it will finally have a full release this fall.
GERMFOOD’s long-awaited Night of the Consumers is finally set to launch in full on October 28th for PC (via Steam). It’s been a long wait for this game, at least four years of beta versions being available to the public, but now, the Night of the Consumers is finally upon us.
In Night of the Consumers, you play for an underpaid retail worker who has to put up with throngs of sociopaths shopping at your store. The Manager (who is literally named The Manager) threatens to fire you if you even remotely upset the aggressive customers.
“The customer is always right” is the philosophy of this manager, even when the customers are literally shitting on the floor, spreading disease through unsanitary practices, and yelling insults at you. You quickly realize the Manager would abolish the minimum wage completely if he could.
The customers and manager in Night of the Consumers are based on real people and conditions. We’ve all encountered jerks who look down on people who work at Wal Mart or fast-food places. Here’s a teaser trailer:
Rather than showing respect to someone doing their best at a job that is not considered glamorous and for little pay, some people think of themselves as better than the retail worker and go out of their way to demean them.
Meanwhile, often these workers have to deal with harassment and unsafe working conditions due to bad managers in some cases and unsanitary locations in others. We’ve all seen videos of Karens harassing people just doing their job, and Night of the Consumers is a game meant to show this in the style of indie horror and to give catharsis.
I will definitely be checking this one out, as I know most indie horror streamers will. The alpha and beta builds were extremely popular on YouTube, so it will be interesting to see what surprises the full release has in store for us.
