NieR: Automata-Themed PS4 Teased, Emblazoned With Emil’s Face

Square Enix has teased a NieR: Automata-themed PlayStation 4 model for Japan.

The new model, shown above, will be fully unveiled sometime next week. The top of the new SKU features a gigantic Emil face, which is sure to please any fans of the series.

During the same livestream reveal, the company also detailed the game’s Monster Hunter Frontier Z collaboration, which includes unique headpieces for both male and female characters, as well as other in-game items.

Finally, Square also showed off 12 minutes of gameplay from an earlier prototype of the game, dubbed “NieR: Androids.” You can find that gameplay featured above, and it begins around the 5:48 mark.

NieR: Automata launches March 7th for PS4, with a PC release coming later this year. A demo for the game is now available on PS4, which you can read more about here.

Probably not coming to the states. We never get any of these that actually have a cool design.

Wait, the PC version isn’t coming til 2018? Does anyone have a source for that…I knew it was delayed, I assumed by a couple months at most though.

That thing is fresh, they should have made it a PS4 Pro version though. I don’t understand what Sony is doing, they need to be pushing the fuck out of the Pro.

It’s not a good idea to market the Pro right now.

Disregarding the myriad of technical problems your unit can have (overheating on a PS3 level, badly-seated GPU leading to graphical glitches, holding your disks hostage, boot and software update loops), the hardware is ill equipped to actually handle what it was made to do and takes off like an F1 fighter jet every time you try to make it do so. Not to mention, you have to buy an HDR TV or a 4K one if you want to take full advantage of what your system has to offer, and a decently-sized one can cost far in excess of what the Pro itself costs.

It’s also a massive power hog compared to a PS4 Slim. And that’s the killing blow right there: the PS4 Slim is a much more technically sound machine. Sony won’t give us the PS4 Pro sales numbers that aren’t bundled with total PS4 sales, which indicates the platform isn’t doing well.

Sony probably knows that it’s better to sell tried-and-true hardware as special edition units than to try your luck with the ones with a higher fault rate. Don’t get me wrong, I love new consoles, I like the idea of the Pro. If you have one and you have no issues with it, that’s nice. But if I were the CEO of a company, I would not put much weight behind it until my engineers could come up with a decent hardware revision that’s quieter and more power-efficient.

Oh gawd! Das terrifying! Nah but that’s pretty rad but a weak design for a special edition console tbh. The only special edition console that I am interested in till this day is the PS4 MGS V red one.

I really loved the demo, definitely a Day 1 buy from me.
