NieR: Automata Has a Final Secret No One Has Found Yet

The latest Famitsu (also via Hachima) has revealed that NieR: Automata is still holding secrets, roughly a year after its release last year.

Reportedly, the game has something the staff are referring to as “that,” and it has yet to be discovered by fans.

They said whatever it is, should it become publicly known, it would be really bad – however they said it ended up in the final game and talking about it further will just cause more problems. Whatever it is, they said it felt NieR-like and they decided to leave it in the final product.

The news comes via an interview with series creator Taro Yoko, as well as game director Takahisa Taura, producer Yosuke Saito, and more staff involved with the game. In regards to the next project for the series, a large number of staff have been interviewed and are being screened by Yoko himself.

Furthermore, a new game is being proposed to Square Enix producer Yosuke Saito, with the hope being the pre-production won’t get stuck in limbo. Yoko said he conceived the proposal thinking it would be great if everyone suffered, and that he wants to reveal it should it be greenlit.

Lastly, the staff confirmed that as 2020 is the 10th anniversary for the NieR series, they want to announce something big – like a new game. It sounds like the entire future of the series once again rests in the hands of Square Enix, but considering NieR: Automata sold quite well, perhaps we’ll get another look into Yoko’s crazy but wonderful mind.

NieR: Automata is now available for PC and PlayStation 4. In case you missed it, you can find our thorough written and video review for NieR: Automata here (we highly recommend it!).
